Ryde Main Carnival CANCELLED

It is with great sadness that due to the weather we have been forced to cancel our Main Carnival tonight.

After a telephone conversation with the Met Office, they told us that very heavy rain (and possibly high winds as well) are due just around the time the carnival would have been setting off. So, although it doesn’t seem too bad at the moment, it’s due to get a lot worse over the next few hours again.

However, the good news is that the Illuminated Carnival on Saturday evening is scheduled to have excellent weather, so we will see you all then.

Ryde Carnival Royalty Selection Night

We had a really successful Ryde Carnival Royalty Selection Night on Saturday 25th March – Thanks so much to Ryde Library for allowing us to use their superb space and also for all the teas and coffees!
We were very pleased to see some kids coming from Cowes (which doesn’t have a Royalty Float this year) so they could try out for a place on Ryde Carnival’s Float and the Entourage.
It was a very hard decision to place the kids and so we are delighted to announce our Royalty Team for 2023.

Island Carnival Memories

A wonderful website has been set up to show the memories of people who have been around the Island Carnivals for a very long time and it’s called Island Carnival Memories

A collection of reminiscences, stories and photographs contributed by Isle of Wight carnival people in a fascinating Oral History project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. It aims to share and celebrate the Island’s rich carnival heritage that has defined our popular culture for more than a century.
