1st SEPTEMBER 2018 Parking suspensions and road closures

The Ryde Carnival procession route: Canoe Lake, Esplanade Southside, Dover Street, Park Rd/Star St, High Street, Union St will be closed to traffic and diversions will be in place to allow the Carnival to take place from late afternoon onwards. Please allow extra time for your journey and be aware that some bus stops will not be in use and parking spaces will be very limited.

Access to Ryde Pier and the Hovercraft will be maintained throughout the Carnival.TO ACCESS THE PIER AND HOVERCRAFT if you are approaching Ryde from the Sandown direction you will need to turn left at St Johns Church onto St Johns Rd and continue onto Green Street, turning right onto West Street at the traffic lights. Access is available via West Street and St Thomas St (which will become two-way to accommodate exiting from the Esplanade).

During the processions it will not be possible for vehicles within the boundaries of Esplanade, Dover St, Park Rd/Star St, High St and Union St to exit, except under controlled conditions at Melville Street/Dover Street.

Parking will be suspended on the following streets to allow the Illuminated Carnival processions to pass safely from 5.30pm (Union St 4.30pm) to 11.59pm.

Union Street;

West Street – west side from Queens Rd to Lind St

North side of Strand from East Street to Esplanade

Canoe Lake Rd from North Walk to Appley Rise

North Walk from Esplanade to Canoe Lake Rd

Esplanade North & South sides from Strand to Dover Street

Esplanade South side from Dover St to Union St

Dover St East side from Dover St roundabout to Melville St

Motorists are likely to encounter difficulties in finding parking places close to the procession route, and therefore we encourage people to leave the car at home and use public transport, or walk.
